the fun bits and the not so fun bits that make travelling what it is
helllo and sorry for the radio silence these past few weeks!
we have been travelling around turkey, and there hasn’t been much down time to stop and reflect and put some pen to paper. currently I am on a 9.5hr bus though so really all I have is time… as such I thought I’d share the fun bits and the not so fun bits of our last few of weeks.
the fun bits:
sailing around the turkish coastline on a traditional gulet. for context imagine us living in our bathers, no showers just ocean swims, lots of reading and many a day snoozes on the deck
big chats and new friendships with other travellers, I’ll always love hearing about other peoples trips and their favourite places/weirdest experiences
insanely yummy turkish food and eating more kebabs + baklava then I should admit
seeing one of our favourite artists FKJ at a festival in istanbul
over a week with my big sister, her partner and my little brother across istanbul/cappadocia. there is nothing as special as time altogether and it’s a miracle we were able to coordinate us all being here at the same time so this trip is definitely one for the memory books
a traditional turkish hamman experience. the only way I can think of describing this is as a spa treatment where you have a sauna, and then get scrubbed and massaged/lightly slapped with bubbles to clean your body
a sunrise hot air balloon ride in cappadocia with my siblings
buying a new turkish rug to take home (and having an awesome brother who is willing to drag it home for me hah)

the not so fun bits:
this 9.5hr bus ride right now (rip)
not sleeping for more then 5hrs across the week on the boat due to the insane heat overnight (a tired mads is not the funnest person to be around)
being sick with fevers, sore throats, diarrhoea, headaches, coughing and vomiting. you name it and either callum or I have had it this past week
having a teary goodbye with my siblings this morning. knowing I won’t see them for the next 5 months sucks
so this is a bit of an overview of my past few weeks. overall I continue to be in awe that this is the life we’re able to live at the moment and know that it won’t last forever so cherishing the fun bits and the not so fun bits as they come. cause hey that’s all part of travelling right!?
I’ll catch you all soon. give me a buzz for an update on you!
big love always, mads
